Today, I visited my family. Over the course of 2 hours, my brother punched me, and my mom slapped me across the face after drinking way too much wine. When I started gathering my things to leave, my mom started crying about how I don't visit enough. FML

I would have left after the first punch, nobody deserve to be treated like that and alcohol is not an excuse.

Sounds like a typical family gathering then. I mean, at least for me. Gotta stop the mario party+Monopoly marathons.

I wouldn't go ever there to get treated like that. I know they are family but they need to show respect non the less. You could also just tell them off...some people don't know until you tell them.

Sorry OP,but your mother is rude.I would have told her it was partly her fault.(assuming she acts like this when you visit.)

****** emotional drunks... can't leave with em', and apparently can't visit either...

Even if you drank twenty bottles and got completely shit-faced, slapping you isn't going to help. What was she trying to do, slap the alcohol out of you? Your brother is just a twat. Sucker punch him.

I think you misread the FML. The mother had too much wine, not the OP. OP, you really shouldn't have to put up with that. FYL

Oops! Sorry, I'm an idiot. *Crawls back under rock* Still not a big fan of the mother though, even after re-reading. What a bitch.

Just admit to them that you feel uncomfortable visiting the psychiatric clinic too often, since your whole family is being treated in one.

perhaps if you stopped drinking, mom, then I would visit more

Amen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Perhaps if I didn't get the snot beaten out of me every time I visit, mom, I would visit more. Are you upset that your punching bag is going away?" Really, OP, they're lucky you visit at all if this is how they treat you. Next visit, leave the first time someone raises a hand to you or your mom starts in on the wine. And if it's the former, call the cops on whoever hits you.

Sounds like my family. But instead of violence I just get called a **** and an idiot and how much everyone hates me, then when I try to leave they beg me to stay since I live 8 hours away and can't visit often:P it's pretty awesome. Not really

Lol. My grandma's like that. When I visit her, she'll mock me for going to university instead of getting a job, mock me for not having as much money as my siblings, make up lies about what my mother has said about me, insult my appearance, and so on. She also interrupts me every time I try to speak to her, and rants about how it's unfair that she's in a wheelchair and how everyone else should suffer with her. Then when it's time to leave, she'll start crying because I don't visit more often.

My mom hasn't been abusive physically but a never of times she gets pretty drunk. 2 months ago she nearly crashed her car and didn't think anything of it. Originally, she seemed sober. She also claims she doesn't have a drinking problem. She's also crashed into a guard rail and laughed. Yet every time I've visited her she always has had wine or is having it.

Well, why don't you visit more often? Unfortunately, we can't choose family!

Much like my family. I feel for you, OP.
