I think they were either mocking him/pulling a prank because the words aren't coherent together. Maybe he looks of a slight Chinese descent? I'm not sure though :)

Because people suck, and will make assumptions about you based on complete ******* insanity. When I was in high school, people thought I was Asian just because I was one of the smartest people in my class. I'm Black and Latino. I have no idea how they even assumed that. Probably just people jumping to whatever conclusion is easiest.

If you think about it, every country has one. For us Americans, I believe it went something like: "GUNS GUNS BOOZE ******* MOAR GUNS RONALD REAGAN" (yes, the all caps was intentional)

You'd be surprised how many think that. I'm a regular at a small local Mexican restaurant, and my terrible Spanish keeps the waiters well entertained. They think I'm funny and don't mind helping me practice, but I get all kinds of remarks from other patrons about how it's racist to practice my Spanish on native Spanish speakers. I really don't understand it...who else would I practice my Spanish on?
