Today, I was at a meeting. One of the other members decided to share that their cat had passed away recently. I got an uncontrollable nervous laugh, started crying because I was laughing so hard, and left the room while everyone watched in horror. FML

Those nervous laugh attacks always happen at the most inappropriate times. Good luck getting out of that one. Perhaps an apology would be a good place to start.

OP, is it that time of the month for you? Really? Or are you just that bi-polar??? Losing a pet is very emotional for the owner(s), and I'm sure that your laughter, whether it's nervous or not, seemed very insensitive and cold-hearted. Get ahold of yourself. Or if you can't control the laughter, clear your throat and excuse yourself from the room. YDI.

I wish that the same happens to you. I'd like to see how exactly you will excuse yourself and clear your throat, while you get the cramps from laughter. I guess you haven't laughed that hard, so you just don't know... it's not a YDI.

#61- Yes, it is a YDI. You and the other emotionally-undeveloped, excuse-making types here are going to pay a high price in life for this behavior, unfortunately. If you're an adult, act like one. No one will accept your excuse that you can't help it, nor should they.

If you genuinely found it sad and felt bad that his cat died, and the laughter really was out of genuine nervousness, and you didn't actually find it one bit funny, even deep down... then FYL If you secretly found it funny deep down, and the laugh was nervous cuz you didn't want to expose that you're sick and find things dying funny... then totally YDI

Damn the would really suck get ready 4 dirty looks for the wrest of the week FYL

Would you like to explain what's so funny about a death of a cat?

Andr913 13

Well, it's pretty funny when a cat dies from a heart attack because the toaster popped out two slices of bread...

Somebody obviously thought it was funny enough to write a book on it: You ever seen "101 uses for a dead cat?" A little dark and twisted but still mildly amusing. :) (No, I don't think this person's cat dying is hilarious, I like most all animals myself. Is there anything more relaxing than just petting your dog's head as it sleeps in your lap, or same with your cat just purring away?)

OP's name is Honey Badger. I thought you weren't supposed to give a shit.

49- Hey Doc: Happy 5000th posted comment. ;) Just glanced at your profile and noticed that, man you're on here a lot. Cheers!

Ydi for not getting mental help that you clearly need.... Someone's cat dying shouldn't give you an uncontrollable nervous laugh if you didn't have anything to do with its death. I get that we all have nervous ticks, I scratch at my head or ears, half the time we don't even notice it, but that's a tick you need to get help for before it happens in front of the wrong person. You obviously know that you can't keep doing it because it's inappropriate, so there's really no excuse for you to not be working on fixing it.

A nervous laugh is more common than you think and there's not much you can do about it. I bet youve done it just like you said, without even noticing.
