I didn't get my first cell phone until I was 13, and I shared that one with my brother. It was only for emergencies. I'm 19 now and I have my own phone with texting, but every time I leave college to visit home there are no phones allowed at the table. And if my mom told that story to me while tearing up I'm pretty sure I'd start crying too. I've just always been that way.
Kids say, "That's fab, ma"? That phrase sounds very 80s.
At least she didn't say "lol".
You deserved it, don't give kids phones til they can drive
Right, because there are no responsible teens out there. *Please don't start with the Gen. Y bashing, there are some responsible teens out there.
Also because there are no irresponsible teens out there.
This broke my heart :'
OP sounds overly emotional.
You sound like a stereotypical "macho man".
What conceivable reason is there for a thirteen year old to have a phone in the first place? I mean honestly. It's not like she's driving to work. Or paying bills. Or anything difficult. Tell her she needs to get a job, pay her bills and then she can say "that's fab, ma" to your story.-and get rid of her phone. It's rude to txt while on a family outing, or dinner. And she's to young for a phone. And people complain about THIER children, look at how they are being raised. :(
Why would you need a phone to drive or pay bills? I mean honestly.
Teenagers... I hope she won't be looking on her phone when she learns to drive.

Kids these days...at least she didn't say it by text :)
I'm only a year older than OP's daughter, and I would have probably gushed all about it! :') Am I the only one who loves hearing stories about their childhood?
