Today, I was at my friend's house. We were looking at her dad's guns, and I was explaining gun safety and how you should never put your finger on the trigger. I then shot a hole in the floor of her house. FML

You shouldn't be fingering another guy's rods right in front of their own daughters. Accidental discharges will have many negative consequences.

This whole scenario is wrong on so many levels. At least it was only the floor, however.

Well whatever. At least it was only the floor.

hope it wasn't the top floor and hit someone on another

obviously you didnt follow your own rule so good job!

Yep, most guns don't fire without pulling the trigger. But the OP did apparently point the gun in a safe direction, so credit for following one of the three rules (of Jeff Cooper's Four Rules) that applied in that situation.

Today, some idiot friend tried to teach me about gun safety, even though I am an expert marksman. He shot a bullet through the floor, missing my dad's face by mere centimeters. FML.

Your dad was lying on the floor while you had a friend showing you, oh expert marksman, a gun? Why was he on the floor??

ideasrule 13

The OP clearly said the bullet went through the floor. Assuming they weren't in the basement, it could have struck somebody. Also, I'm not the friend in the FML; this was a parody.

Lol! I was totally going to say that when I saw the comment. I was like "why the hell is their dad on the floor?"

dumbass u need 2 remove mag and lock open the bolt.

its your own fault for not checking to see if there were bullets in the gun. NEVER leave a gun loaded in your house or when not in use.

This reminds me of the time my grandmother shot a hole in her roof with a shotgun.

The correct term for an unloaded gun is, again, paperweight. We can debate the value of already having a round in the pipe versus the distinctive sound of chambering a round in a semi-auto, but a self-defense gun should have bullets in it. Household members should be trained appropriately; for instance the NRA program I discuss in comment 60, Eddie Eagle, seems to be appropriate for even very young children who cannot yet reach the top of the closet or whatever well-thought-out place the gun owning parent selects. As children grow older parents can choose to train them in how guns work and teach them the Four Rules promulgated by Jeff Cooper, showing the importance of practice and training. (Ammo quantity restrictions including high taxes are counterproductive when it comes to gun safety. Most rounds are used in practice; many of us may never fire a shot except at the range. Ironically, point-and-shoot is not a good approach to guns.)

OP, you're seriously an idiot and have no business handling firearms. You ALWAYS assume they're loaded.
