Today, I was at the gym on the elliptical. Feeling proud of myself for finishing a very intense workout, I looked to my left to see that the maintenance guy fixing the machine next to me had burned more calories testing the machine than I did during my entire workout. FML

What if the maintenance man is really a karate master in diguise?

maybe he had been working on it for ages?

Screw that guy. I'm in the beginnings of a lifestyle change like that myself (working out and eating better) and like I told my roommate, even on the days that I fail and have a bad snack and don't work out, I'm STILL doing tons better than I was before. Don't let the haters get you down. It doesn't matter how many people lap you, you're still ahead of everyone on the couch.

Hey now, you don't need to worry about what someone else can do. You did pretty good for yourself and that's what matters, and if you keep it up you'll be able to do the same as the other guy eventually. He probably started out the same as you at some point. You should still feel good about how you did.

Anyone who looks at exercise as a competition is doing it wrong and likely to stop exercising.

Baby steps. You'll be champ at it someday soon.

Everyone has their own pace and their own workout. Go at your own pace!

It's not about the Calories or any number that a machine spits out. You can feel if you've had a good workout and it sounds like you did! Plus, if the machine next to you was not working properly, maybe the readout was wrong?

You have to start somewhere.
