Who the hell eats chips and drinks soda after their mom dies?
people who want their loved ones funerals to be a celebration of their life
"Oh, I meant a fun...eral party...!"
Why do you need chips and soda for a funeral? So people will come?
Why do people put YDI? How was OP supposed to know?
Well, she might have a fun party either way... :P
Typically a funeral is followed by a wake, where you have food and remember the life of the deceased. We've had one for every grandparent of mine that has passed. How do people not know about these things? Maybe I've just been to too many funerals. :(
yet another reason I work nights at the grocery store.. no customers
This has happened to me when I was buying things for my grandmas funeral. This one guy insisted he came to the "party" even after I explained it was for a funeral.

Just quickly say, "I'm sorry to hear that ma'am." However it sounds like the people who replied never actually been to a funeral. Afterwards they usually have a small gathering of people. They usually serve stuff like sandwhich and stuff and people talk, then they leave. It's not a "pig out" as suggested by some people. Think: sad party.
It's called making small talk.
