Today, I was doing takeout orders at the restaurant I work at. I spent a long while putting together this guy's $135.00 order. When he finally got there to pick it up, I told him to fill out the credit card slip. I looked at it after he left. He gave me a 40 cent tip. FML

most people i know don't leave tips when they order food to go, i guess coz most of the work put into it was done by the cooks, not the waiter/waitress. or something like that.

I guess it depends where you work at. Although 40cents is cheap!

Where I'm from tips are an insult to receive. I remember when my dad first got a job in Canada and received a tip, he was very insulted and refused to take it.

When you're working "to go" at a restaurant, you get paid a higher hourly wage. Quit bitching, or get a different job...

I don't get why waiters expect tips. You're already being paid for your job? We don't tip builders or plumbers when they provide us with a service so why should we tip someone bringing food to a table. I am actually a waitress too so I'm not saying this without knowing a waiters point of view.

40 cents is better than 0 cents every penny has value

Some people get takeout to specifically avoid having to tip. The tip (for me at least) is based on how many times you checked on me vs how busy it was and if you remember to bring requested items like boxes or extra sauce.

since when do you need to tip for takeout???
