Today, I was doing takeout orders at the restaurant I work at. I spent a long while putting together this guy's $135.00 order. When he finally got there to pick it up, I told him to fill out the credit card slip. I looked at it after he left. He gave me a 40 cent tip. FML

most people i know don't leave tips when they order food to go, i guess coz most of the work put into it was done by the cooks, not the waiter/waitress. or something like that.

10% on a take out order is pretty standard. Regardless of what you tip, the server has to tip out food runners, bussers, hostesses, bartenders, and where I work some of the kitchen staff a certain percentage of your SALES not tips. It's not really a big deal on small tabs, but something that large takes a long time to put together. I had a guy tip me nothing on an $85.00 to go order after watching all the work I had to do to put it together. I opened the checkbook before he left and said, "OOOOOH! Thank you so much, sir! Happy Thanksgiving to you too!" Ignorant people -.-

Before anyone says anything I've been a waitress and I currently handle all the to-go orders in a cafe. Screw you for expecting a tip at all. You're doing your job and shouldn't get paid extra for handing someone some food. If you're expected to tip out other people and all that jazz and don't like it? Get another job. And for the waitresses that gripe about tips... if you don't like it, get a job that pays you minimum wage and shut up. It's not the patron's job to pay you, they aren't your boss.

the only reason tips are given is because of the service... if you're doing take out, im sure they've already paid extra for the "service" and that goes to the restaurant, so if you want to complain it should be directed at the boss...

248 should be ashamed to say that bull sht since u "were a waitress" yea..... rite

The amount of tips you get really depends on the kind of restaurant and the place you work at. In some cultures/restaurants, tipping 10% is plenty enough, while in some places giving tips is considered 'rude'. In general though, you don't get tips for putting together a take-out, I mean, unless you mean that you 'prepared the food' as well, when you said you prepared the $135 order, what do you expect to get tipped for? handing the customer his food?

Stop Being SO ******* GREEDY, Im Stationed In South Korea and if you try and tip them they take it as an insult because your suggesting that their service is shitty and they take pride in everything, thats whats wrong with the people back in the states, if you dont tip they get offended because your not giving your money to them, its sickening what the U.S. citizens have come to now

Agreed. I'm from Germany and tipping is something that almost never happens. It's sad that people expect to get money for everything in the US. :/

I dislike the idea of paying your wages. I tip 15-20% generally, but if you get upset over just a couple of people not tipping then get over it. complain to the system, and as consumers, we support your restaurant to even have you keep your job. otherwise it goes bankrupt and you'd be all fml, my job went down under. so whether or not you receive tip, be grateful.

If u were waiting tables then I would understand, but working takeout? No reason to expect a tip at all in that situation.
