awww. i'm incredibly sorry. this is one of the saddest FML's i think i've read. cops can be such jackasses sometimes. and iunno, the cell phone rule is petty anyway. i think that one person's right about it not being a primary offense. i think most of the time, cops will only pull you over if you did something ELSE wrong, and if you were on the phone, then it's a double whammy. i can understand people not wanting you to TEXT while driving, but answering a quick phone call? please. not a huge deal. (to me, anyway.)
Forget the phone call. Pull over to the side of the road. Then call that person back. You wouldn't have gotten a ticket, you would have saved yourself and other people from danger if anything else had happened, and you wouldnt be crying hysterically on the road if you were unable to pull over.
I'm so sorry for your loss, it's so hard to lose a good friend. I just lost a best friend in April due to a car accident as well, he was only 17. It's hard but you'll pull through, be strong. It's always comforting to think that those people are still always there with you by your side.
wow. sooo, it's totally LEGAL to talk on the phone while driving in massachusetts, so clearly it is not that dangerous. unless of course the conversation promotes negative emotions, etc., HENCE WHY SHE ******* PULLED OVER. so anyone who thinks she "deserves it" for talking on the phone and driving can fuuuckkk offf seriously? if this happened to you i'm pretty sure you wouldn't be sitting there saying, "oh it's totally fine, i deserved it." no, absolutely not. it's just easier for all of you to say she deserves it because you are not in her situation. wicked sorry for your loss. :( the cop is clearly a douchebag who has nothing else to do with his/her time ... pretty much like most of them out there. go to court and fight the ticket.
The funny part is that OP seems to be a lot more annoyed by the ticket than her dead friends
I'm just going to play devil's advocate here and say that clearly it's not legal in California for her age, since she got a ticket for it. But either way, the police officer is a turd for ticketing her after her best friends died...or he's like most of us and doesn't believe the OP...just sayin'. Anyway, I'm sorry for your losses if your post is real.
well yeah i know it's illegal in CA but you know tons of people break that law haha. it's not that hard to drive on the phone and talk so i'm assuming tons of people in CA do it anyway. it just sucks cause i bet sooo many people have gotten away with it, but she had to pay the price even though the cop knows that her friends just died.
A lot of highly dangerous things are legal in a lot of jurisdictions. Legality doesn't mean much of anything. The fact of the matter is that all of the data suggests that talking on your cell phone while driving is dangerous. I don't give a **** if you think you can handle it. You're also putting *my* life on the line when you do it. You're not much better than those asshole who insist they can drive after 15 beers. Further, she was in hysterics before she managed to pull over. What if, in attempting too pull over, her hysterical state caused a pileup? Would you still be saying "It's okay, because she was pulling over"? NO. And, I'll admit it, once upon a time I used to talk on my cell phone while driving. It's actually still legal in my state, but I don't do it anymore because I know the statistics. More importantly, I know I do several things that are illegal, just like anyone else does. However, I ******* take responsibility if this leads to me getting in any sort of trouble. I knew what I was doing, and I made a choice. Modern society seems to have forgotten how to take responsibility for their own actions, and it is absolutely disgraceful.
This is the most surreal FML I've ever seen. Today, everybody I ever loved passed away in a fire that also destroyed my uninsured dream home. And then I got a splinter. FML
To all the YDI people, I don't think this post is entirely about the ticket. I think it's more so along the lines of fate adding insult to injury, so to speak. It's pretty much lamenting that life shit on her all at once. You people who all put YDI... you all ******* suck. GDIAF
