The cop did nothing wrong. You broke the law, and now your paying for it. You chose to answer the phone while you were driving it's your own fault. Yes its horrible that your friends died and I'm sorry to hear that but to all you slamming the officer and thinking he's in the wrong you are incorrect. He's only doing his job. Again, sorry for your loss.
i'm really sorry to hear about your lose, but the thing is, is that you answered the phone in the 1st place... that's breaking the law... and you know you could have crashed, and killed someone and taken somone else's friend, family member or loved one away... kinda selfish.
It's illegal in California to talk on the phone while driving? Seriously? What a ******* police state the United States has become. Next thing you know, you'll have CCTV on every street corner just like the UK.
Yes, it's illegal because it is a danger to everyone on the road, not just the person talking on the phone. The exact same way that driving drunk is illegal. I don't consider that a police state behavior, however. It's just common sense.
Forget all the people who are saying YDI. I'm very sorry for your loss, and that cop is a douche. Contest the ticket in court.
She could just be referencing Sleepless in Seattle. Or she could be from Washington, but traveling in California. Or she could have moved. Or hundreds of other possibilities.
I honestly don't believe this really happened. If I found out TODAY that my best friends have just died, FML wouldn't even be on my radar, let alone the internet at all.
As others have said , YDI. Driving whilst using a phone is illegal for a reason, it's dangerous, and it causes car accidents. I'm sorry for your loss, honestly. I've lost loved ones, I know how it feels. But if you'd crashed whilst answering your phone, you could have caused that same pain for somebody else. Think about it. Also, when you answered the phone, you had no idea what the caller was going to say, so the defence of 'it was an emergency/important/whatever' is bull.
Why forget the people saying YDI? She _does_ deserve it. She knowingly broke a law and became a danger on the road. She informed a cop of this who then ticketed her according to the law. At what point does she not deserve it? The death of her friends doesn't let her off the hook.
im really sorry for your loss but why did your friend tell you this on the phone? i think he should have told this personally... :S
