Today, I was excited to finally get an interview after being unemployed since getting out of the military nearly a year ago. Turns out, they weren't even interested in hiring me. They'd just never met a female Marine before. FML

Jeez, that's terrible. What were they planning on doing? Stare at you, say "wow, a female marine, it really is true" and send you on your way? I'm sorry to hear, OP. I'm sure you'll find a good job soon. For all it's worth, thank you for your service.

technically that seems like discrimination or harrassment. it's not right of them to waste your time with an interview knowing that won't consider you. I'd complain to their hr department.

I would complain too. That is true sexism. Girls can be a marine as much as a guy.

Good luck! I've been there. Lots of interviews and questions about being a female Marine and no job offers. It was just a cool concept of something for them.

It took me 2 years to finally get work after I got out, so keep your head up. It shouldn't be as hard as it is, but things should work out eventually. I suggest security work as that's what I finally got and I've been in that field ever since.

Sorry to hear that OP. Thank you for your servive

Should have asked them if they'd like to see some moves you learned in training. And then beaten them up once they said yes.

I think they have never been punched by a female Marine either and wanna try...

cough cough..army leads the way..... move on. the leadership skills you got from the military probably scare them away.

Well that might explain why you have trouble finding a job. They are intimidated by a girl being more cool than them.
