Today, I was given my yearly evaluation as a cake decorator at Walmart. They said I "was easily the best decorator there" and "the bakery has definitely improved since I got there." In the same conversation they put "unsatisfactory" on my evaluation and denied my raise. FML

You deserved it 2 470

ruthlessrobin tells us more.

I went to the store manager who said "what do you expect? You don't make 22 cakes a day." That level is for mass production I am put on specialty orders 90% of the time. He didn't care

Walmart does not treat their employees correctly. You should argue with your superior and demand an explanation why you were denied a raise what you did

Don't worry OP, Its just Walmart. You surely deserve something better, like a job at a specialty bakery

I suppose it's possible to be the best is a shit hole, unsatisfactory is the best quality they can do.

I've been there with Walmart. Performance was excellent and they was hurting for people, and yet they laid me off because the position was "unavailable". A week later, I found out a cashier that was also seasonal help got promoted to my position as an Electronics Sales Associate. 2 years later, I got a job at Subway, owned by Loves. I get raises every 6 months and free ice cream, because Loves also owned DQ. If you can OP, drop them for a better job, you deserve better.

Also forgot to mention that at the time there was another sales associate that wasn't doing his job. He refuse to lift and carry TV's. He'll only aid customers that was interested in Apple products. I and the other associates kept on complaining about him not doing his part to the Assistant Manager of our department. I took them 6 months after I was laid off to fire him, because the Store Manager saw him do nothing while she had asked him to do something. They called me back and I accepted the invitation, just to have the HR people forget who I was.

If you don't agree with an evaluation, you don't have to sign it. I know it's already done but in a situation like that, I would ask why they wrote unsatisfactory. You may be a great decorator but maybe have other areas to work on. Either way don't let it go at that. Maybe it was a mistake or maybe you do need improvements on other areas, you won't know unless you ask. Great job on the cake decorating!

I used to work in the bakery at Wal-Mart. for starters, your evaluation is supposed to be every three months. not yearly. your options for those evaluations are either get fired, or get a raise. the raises are supposed to be 10¢, $15¢ or 25¢/ hour. you got screwed in every aspect. also, depending on what part of Texas you're in they just opened up wincos there. they're a crappy company but the raises are based on hours worked and are applied by the time clock. I'd look into working there. Wal-Mart is a horrible company to work for. I quit for a reason. And being the best decorator there, no offense, isn't saying much.

That's not how it works anymore Reviews are annual, raises are 40 cents or 60 cents, no one is good enough to get 60 cents, if you have two coachings you don't get a raise (which is probably what happened to op, but hey let's bitch about ******* up without saying you did on FML and garner sympathy, bonus points for it being Walmart)

notvall raises are annual or that much. Some shitty jobs do it every three months and inly. 25 cents at a time

I promise my cakes look a lot better then almost all other Walmarts in the area. I'm going up to the market manager next. Wish me luck!

38, I'm confused. Do you know 19? How do you know they "f'd up" and aren't talking about it? Why are you assuming that 19 was fired when she/he said they quit? Sorry, maybe it's just me, but I'm not getting your rant at the end of that comment and it sounds kind of rude.

@19 I'm assuming it's been a LONG time since you've worked there. I've been there almost ten years and it's never been like that. don't talk about things you don't actually know about.

#64 I wasn't talking about #19 only to say they had outdated information, I was saying if the op got no raise at all they likely had two coachings (infractions) in the past year #42 sure, some jobs have quarterly raises (I won't say shitty, because I've had very good paying jobs that did quarterly reviews and raises), but we're talking about Walmart, which had annual reviews

Walmart sucks ass. They will never care about their employees. If you want a job that does op you need to go find something better! Costco and wegmans are amazing and both treat their employees great

Wait... How'd that go again O,o

Some people just don't do logic... Like my English teacher who gave me feedback on my presentation saying everything was perfect, then gave me a B.

I had a teacher once who the highest mark they would give was 80% because "there's always room for improvement" which is all well and fine unless you have no wrong answers on a multiple choice test

Start looking for another job. You deserve better

I agree you can almost certainly do better. If you don't want to deal with the business aspect of starting your own store take a photo book of your work and try some local grocery stores. Stores in my area are frequently looking for experienced decorators.

Poor op is working while in college though and I guess Walmart works around her hours well, where as a small bakery may not. But maybe another grocery store or something may work op?
