I love all the people on here who obviously have no clue how much glasses cost without inaurance. I paid $400 for mine, and they're a cheap frame and just a regular lense - nothing special.
You got ripped off hardcore. Frames typically run $50-$200, and standard lenses (for a double astigmatism, and complex prescription) are another $100-$200, with the upgrades to anti-fog, ultra-thin material, magnetic sunglasses, and anti-glare coating only adding another $70 or so. I walked into the doctor's office with $700 in year-end flex pay money, and even paying full price for the exam, and maxing out all the options on the glasses, I ended up with $70 or so to waste on band-aids and Tylenol. That said, $2/year for full coverage is a drop in the freaking bucket, and it covers loss or theft. Why didn't the OP just insure the damn things?
I never would pay so much for glasses! (I have contacts so glasses are just there as backup when my eyes hurt). My first pair of glasses in the fifth grade was no more than $50, and my second pair 2 years later was maybe $70, and that was considered expensive here, as I was more picky. For my last pair of glasses, I "splurged" big time and bought one for $160! My parents couldn't even believe I would spend that kind of money on it. So for someone to spend $800 on glasses is more than "splurging", I think it's throwing out money on something you might need replaced in one minute. And not just from damage, sometimes a person needs to higher his prescription, another expense.
$800 glasses ought to be insured -- especially if they are specially crafted, and/or you can't afford to replace them. Besides, you can get the lenses -- the most expensive, by far, part of the glasses mounted in new frames easily.
not true. I don't think I've had a pair of glasses yet where the lenses cost more than the frames.
dude my vision's like 20-400 with a slight astigmatism. It's not simple. Frames are just pricey as hell.
As soon as I saw "$800 glasses" I thought YDI.
People who are spending $800 on glasses are clearly choosing the most expensive designer frames they can. I have been wearing glasses since I was six, and my parents always got me very nice high quality frames with all the extras for the lenses. Usually two pairs because I was forgetful and clumsy. Never ran much over $400-$600 for the two pairs with a high prescription. As an adult, I can't afford to buy glasses as often or as nice as the ones I had as a child. I typically get one pair when I go, and again, get all the extras. I don't buy brand names like dolce or whatever is in style, but I do get nice high quality ones. I have never spend even close to $800.
They are ASD, not USD, so if you're talking american dollars, 600 equals around 750 ASD.
wear contact lenses.
YDI for paying $800 for some ******' glasses, mate.
I think next time you should get cheaper glasses or just get contacts. I know glasses can be pricey, but if you are willing to spend $800 on them, I'd say you should protect them with your life, especially if you need them to see on a daily basis, but that's just me.
In this person's defense, they're in Australia, so it's more like $700 (US). Still very expensive for glasses, but not *quite* so bad...
So you're saying $100 makes a difference when you're already that high up? If you're paying $700, hell even $500 for glasses they had better be able to withstand a nuclear explosion.
LOL.
