Today, I was moving to the city with all my belongings when the trailer came unhitched, breaking the chains on my dad's homemade trailer. I then watched as the trailer narrowly missed a guardrail, went down a hill and into a river. My dad still won't admit he didn't latch the hitch. FML

OP, you're driving. It's your responsibility to check it. You're not living with mommy and daddy anymore. Time to take responsibility for yourself.

My dad has done this to me as well, failed to secure the latch on the ball hitch. I hit a bump and the trailer bounced off of the ball and hung on the chains. However my chains didn't break and I just coasted to a stop, reconnected the trailer and secured the latch myself. Now I check it myself every time. For the record, that trailer was homemade too. It has more miles on it than most of your moms and it's always been reliable. Some people have the skill required to build a trailer that is safe and effective and non-trashy-looking.

Men won't ever admit to being wrong. Sorry OP. I hope things work out for you.

You lose all your stuff and all you're bothered about is if your Dad hitched it up?! Try worrying about all your stuff floating away and next time CHECK things yourself!

Two words: homemade trailer. Even though it wasn't YOUR homemade trailer, you deserve this for allowing your belongings to be attached to one.

You're the driver. You're responsible for the load. No one else. Sorry..

You should admit that your a dumbass for not checking it yourself.
