Today, I was notified that I've been going to the wrong courses for 4 weeks. A friend of mine was the only person to tell me that the administration had taken the privilege to change my courses. I have now failed 5 courses due to absences and have been suspended from college for 6 months. FML

can they just do that?? Can't you complain / explain the situation?

Go talk to your course coordinator and explain the situation, it's not the end of the world. On the bright side, you can take some time to travel.

If they are on a scholarship from the school, they can change the classes to meet the requirements to keep the scholarship. It happened to my friend. At least they gave him a notice though. FYL

Yeah, I don't see how they can change all of your courses without even telling you, unless you just neglected to check e-mails or something. Everything at my university is done electronically, and you would definitely know which classes you are and are not in. If they really didn't notify you, then I would complain about it and see what can be done. Pretty sure they can't do something like that without telling you about it.

There are several things wrong with this. How does your friend know and you do not? The University would have contacted you either by phone and/or email. AND you are in college now! It is YOUR responsibility to know what classes you are in... u should keep track of your online stuff... Argue it still, but next time, be more aware.

So your friend somehow knew your schedule then you did? That's the part that doesn't make sense..

you and your advisor have to sign off on schedule changes then they go thru the registrars office. seriously if you're gonna write a fake fml at least make it believable

Sounds more like a bad dream than a real situation. How is it possible that your friend knew about the changes, but you didn't? Part of higher education is paying attention to your schedule...first day of class, they need to verify your attendance, don't they?

Are you sure you werent notified? Maybe you just misplaced the information. Otherwise, I dont think what they did is acceptable. Like others, I also find the whole attendance thing questionable, especially if youre only on the 4th week, but regardless of that you need to be informed of your class changes. Hell at the start of a semester, I keep checking my list of classes to be sure Im headed to the right ones.

if you sign up for classes online (as most universitys and colleges have this option) administration can accidently move things around and/or forget to tell you that something has been moved around. after a given date (for me, two weeks into classes) changes cannot be made in regards to classes other than dropping the class and still being charged half or the full course fee. i have had courses where the date, time and room number have all been changed without my being alerted and i have had friends moved in or out of lectures and labs without their knowledge. if you don't constantly check your online status and "week at a glace" it is very likely that you can be attending a class that you are infact not in. espeically if attendance is not taken. then if the class has a quiz or assignment that is missed you fail, and often on the 2nd or 3rd missed you automatically fail the course on attandance or participation grounds if your professor has stated in the syllabus that the consequence for missed or incompleate assignements is automatic failure

ya sure you were. They can't change your courses without notifying you!

Everyone saying they can't change your classes without notifying you- it happens at my college all the time. There's no such thing as having to "sign off" on the changes, and there have been several cases where friends or people I know will print out their schedule 5 days before classes start only to find that, the day they start, they've got a whole different set of classes now. I've had one class changed under my nose, as well, for no reason. Several schools also have a policy of force-failing you if you miss the first few days of class. This is a very believable FML, in my opinion.
