Today, I was on a date with a very intelligent and handsome guy. I was so nervous that when he was telling me about his twin sister, I asked him if they were identical twins. FML

Awkward.. but if the 'intelligent and handome' guy doesn't have a good enough sense of humour to not hold it against you, then you're probably better off without him :-)

I would probably do that too, honestly. He probably thought it was cute! If not...AVADA KEDAVRA!

It's fine some twins don't look alike they where just born at the same time. Don't worry about it.

I'm a twin with a sister and sometimes I get asked that and I want to break a vase over their head.

Male and female twins will never be identical, they will always be fraternal, unless one of them had a sex change. A definite FML for you

All twins aren't identical :) it's ok :)

They could be fraternal you idiot that's a legit question

That's exactly the point. You know that fraternal (dizygotic) twins are, by definition non-identical? Dizygotic twins occur when two eggs are fertilised by two sperm; you can think of them as two siblings born independently in terms of their looks, that they simultaneously shared a uterus is in most respects irrelevant. Monozygotic twins, on the other hand, are formed from a single fertilised egg when the zygote divides prior to implanting in the uterine wall, resulting in two embryos with identical genetic information. The twins in this FML *have* to be dizygotic because they're of different genders, thus you can infer they have a different combination of x/y chromosomes and as such cannot be monozygotic.
