A better idea is hide out in your house/hideout with supplies for a few months/years then when most of them are dead the go to the big stores.

You're an idiot. Anyone that would rely on guns is going to die. Ammo runs out, so unless you have the means an ability to continue to refill shells and casings, you'll eventually be stuck. Not to mention guns make too much noise, every time you kill one Zombie hundreds more would be alerted to where you are. You obviously haven't thought enough about it. Mountains are good, somewhere with water and access to wood. Fletcher's and bowyers will become necessary societal members. No one will survive on their own long enough to make a difference. It becomes about surrounding yourself with others who aren't stupid enough to barricade themselves with guns in death trap buildings.

This is a very large concern for my boyfriend and myself. Zombie shelters are a necessity.

Zombies will rise, my friend. Thank goodness I payed extra attention while watching Resident Evil, Dawn of the Dead, Shaun( or Shawn, not sure) of the Dead, and of course Zombieland.
