Today, I was out with my boyfriend, when he started browsing wedding rings. He found a ring, proposed to me right there in front of a crowd, and then was promptly denied a payment plan. We left without a ring. FML

Sounds like he didn't think that out very carefully.

see the positive sides, he loves you plus he knows his financial condition for what to deny, cheer up Op he might turn up with another ring!

I voted YDI because the ring shouldn't be what you're focused on right now... You should be glad he loves you and wants to spend his life with you. It wasn't his fault, it was the thought that really counted

something similar happened to a friend, which is how she got conned into financing her own ring, six months before moving out and filing for divorce.

Ahhh rings, pointless tokens of love. It may be embarrassing now but it's probably better in the long run. Now he can save up money for the ring or he can adjust the choices based on a realistic budget. I definitely feel like this is more of an FML for him though, poor guy. Give him some extra love, he deserves it!

At least he asked you can still say yes. you don't need a ring. As long as you both know you love each other u can get married and save up to buy the ring

I would have said yes anyway. Ring doesn't matter in the long run.

Might be that he has no credit. It took me years to get credit because I had none. It was stupid to me but that's what the letters said.

That system strikes me as stupid as well. So I'm getting rejected from credit card companies specifically because I've been able to save enough to pay for everything to date--including my car!--in cash? Doesn't make any sense.
