Today, I was rejected from the University of Washington. My dad has been a professor there for 30 years, and is on the board of admissions. FML

Today, I got a large envelope from a college I applied to earlier. My mom, expecting big news, made my family gather round as I opened it. It ended up being a letter of rejection from not just that school, but all three campuses of the state college. FML

Today, I received my acceptance letter to one of the most prestigious universities in the US, as well as a nice scholarship. I was so proud of myself, I eagerly showed my dad, hoping he would shed a tear or two. His only words were, "Just get a job so you can get the hell out of my house." FML

Today, I got an offer to study at a good university. My father has been pushing me to apply for years, so I ecstatically broke the news. Instead of congratulating me, he just grunted and delivered the more important news that he's divorcing my mum. Moment ruined. FML

Today, I found out that I was denied for work study eligibility by my college. I went to my financial advisor to ask why. It wasn't my grades or attendance. Apparently my father makes too much money for me to get a job at the school. My dad was fired 3 months ago and has been out of work since. FML

OMG! I go there!! Not that it helps at all..... The point I had planned on making, however, is that UW is going to be going through a bunch of budget cuts from the state and such, due to the economic crisis we're in. It was even in our paper, that they're rejecting a lot of people now, a lot more than they normally do, so you're definitely not alone. And don't think less of yourself at all because of this!! It's happening to a lot of people!! Good luck with applications, and when you get to it, admissions!

I voted YDI u think that just because your dad is on the board of addmissions that you can get in? Even if he wanted you in there are the other people who need to decide to let you in! You can't just say that your dad is there so you can get in no matter how smart you are...
