In most places it's illegal to bike on sidewalks. It's also actually more dangerous for you (cars are paying more attention to what is near them ON THE STREET, not what is near them on the sidewalk) and pedestrians

You do realize that legally in the US and Canada, you are to always bicycle on the road, right? If you bicycle is on the sidewalk, you are supposed to be walking it, not riding it. The law requires you to use hand signals to alert drivers to what you are planning to do while on a bicycle - drivers aren't going to be able to notice those hand signals if you are on the sidewalk. A pedestrian behind you doesn't need to know you are going to be turning left or right, or stopping at a corner. If you were on the street, you were where you were supposed. If you were on the sidewalk, than you had good reason to believe a car was irritated with you for biking in the wrong place
