In the military, we had to perform a PMCS when we checked out a vehicle. This includes taking note of the fuel level. Any driver is responsible for their vehicle, and for knowing what they'll need to accomplish a task. It's fairly obvious from your post that your boss meant you had everything you needed to perform the task once you got to the customer's home. Company credit cards are usually strictly monitored and kept secure, if said company has management with any sense. No one would just put a company gas card in the glove box. Most companies require the driver to check out the card. Therefore, the situation is 100% your fault for not double checking that everything you needed was, in fact, there. Never take another human being's word for anything, as they are human, and just as prone to mistakes as anyone, even if they are management.
For those of you saying they should've read the gas gauge, they are human they make mistakes. I'm sure you've all made a few
It's not his fault because he "can't" check a gas tank. Just because he "ran out" doesn't mean he ended up completely on empty before he noticed. Obviously this post is more about not having the gas card when his boss assured him he would have everything he needed. I bet if he had questioned the boss about it before he left, he would've gotten shit from him then too.
