Argh, FYL. At my job if there's a spill or broken glass you have to make sure there's someone standing over it until it's cleaned. If you're the only one around then you wait over it till you can flag someone down to help you. You NEVER just leave it. I wouldn't be the guy that sues when it (fortunately) doesn't seem like you're that hurt, but maybe you could talk to management amd get some free groceries or something?
They'll likely still be a bit bruised. Just because they didn't break a leg doesn't mean they're not hurt. Either way, as you said, just because someone wasn't badly hurt this time doesn't mean they couldn't be. Such behaviour is dangerous and should be pointed out. OP doesn't have to insist that they should have free stuff, they just need to bring the problem to the manager's attention and they'll likely get some kind of freebie as a gesture of goodwill. It's not exploitation, it's just how good companies keep customers.
What about when people make the spills and don't tell anyone? There are plenty of times that has happened where we have the same policy where I work. I've been VERY lucky that I saw them before someone slipped. Honestly most slips people have are not paying attention to their surroundings.
Hmm, good point, I never thought of that. Usually I hear the smash or there's just enough people around that someone sees it...I actually have no idea what you'd do if you were in a large shop like that! However, in this instance someone clearly knew because they were bringing a sign.
SUE! ... Oh, wait, no... this takes place in Australia. Never mind.
I would have laughed as well. He who laughs, lasts.
Some people think it's no big deal. But while working at my moms restaurant, the health department nearly shut down our restaurant, because there was a wet area w/o the wet floor sign. Someone could've slipped and gotten seriously hurt, and it would've been on us. He shouldn't have laughed. He doesn't know that he could get in serious trouble. But hope all is well.
Exactly, I agree, but even with a wet floor sign some people just don't listen and when they hurt themselves they want to sue. At my job people do this all of the time, they clearly see the sign, but still walk on the wet floor and get an attitude when you tell them to go a in different direction.
You can laugh back after you win your lawsuit
Sue them
That sounds like something that would happen to me. Sorry about your luck, OP. I'm not sure suing is the answer in this case. Suing SHOULD only be used in a scenario where you have significant medical bills and/or loss of wages due to the injury, not because you bruised your tailbone (and possibly your ego).
That bi*ch is so mean

I hear a lawsuit in the near future
Being a cleaner is a legitimate job, you snob. Also, you have no idea what job OP has, or if they have one at all.
