Today, I was so bored at a family gathering that I pretended to be busy texting the whole time. I don't know what's worse, that I'm not close to anyone in my family, or that I have no one close enough to text to about such things. FML

well i don't know your family but why don't you try to ease yourself in with the group? maybe in time, you'll find something great about them so that the family gatherings won't be as bad.. as for the friend thing, you should ask for your friends' phone numbers then actually start texting..

you should really get to know your family because friends aren't going to be there forever but usually family is and you obviously have no close friends so you should talk to your family instead of trying to look 'cool' in front of them...just sayingggg

Maybe if you have to pretend to text people you should get out more and meet people so you have people to text... Or you know, get to know your family?

Maybe if you weren't a stuck up teenager too cool for family, you would get along with some of them and not have to pretend like you have better things to do... since you obviously don't. Ydi.

stuck up teenager? wow really? cause i think I feel for op unlike you cause family can be either mean, rude, creepy, gross, too nice, etc. so I totally understand op. plus, op might not have any people there her/his age so it makes things difficult. think about it。

Yes, but he called it 'boring'- indicating that the only thing wrong with these people is that they aren't interesting enough for him. Plus 'too nice'? Wtf!!! If you rule out even talking to people and sit rudely pretending to text others because they're 'too nice' then you deserve to die alone.

Well, Shyness is understandable, but I don't think this is the problem here. This seems like one of those teenagers who think they're too cool for anyone and that their family is a bunch of dorks. Of course they don't have any friends either because they're too cool. Seems like they're stuck on themselves.

I really, really don't get along with my family but I atleast try to get along with them at gatherings. I sort of think it's disrespectful to be texting away(or in this case pretending to) around your elders.
