I'm sorry, but ew. I never wear scrubs after my shift. I change, and then I wash the scrubs when I get home. Protecting the public also includes not wearing scrubs in public.
OP never say they worked in a hospital. For all we know, OP is a receptionist, scribe, medical biller, etc at a doctor's office. (Could be orthopedist, neurologist, anything) - no more bacteria there than at a grocery store. No one ever said anything about surgical scrubs either.
What's wrong with wearing pajamas in public?
Who cares if you go out in your pajamas anyway? If you're just stopping st the store, no need to get all dolled up.
Come live here where everyone goes out in their pajamas! FYL though, that would annoy me so much.
i don't believe people in the medical field should be wearing scrubs outside of work.
I can personally say that I have acquired multiple sets of hospital scrubs and I find them extremely comfortable. I wear them around the house as well as pack them on vacations for emergency hospital visits.

Innocent question to the community and OP: do scrubs harbour bacteria? Is it unhygienic to wear clothes that have ben exposed to a hospital environment in a grocery store? Thanks.
Some people are too quick to judge. FYL.
