Although I don't know you, OP, it sounds like you're judging your own achievements via comparing yourself to your best friend; it's almost like you consider her achievements your failures. You firstly need to stop doing that or you'll make yourself unhappy with your own life; which is wonderful and beautiful in its own way, you just need to see what's good about yourself instead of concentrating on what's bad.

Go traveling overseas, OP! As soon as you open your mouth in a foreign land you'll have loads of people flocking to you wanting to know more about you and your hot Aussie accent. It does wonders for the self-esteem.
