Those people shouldn;t have gone out to dinner if they couldn't even afford to tip you correctly. I wouldn't say this is FYL(Although few things on this site ever reach that level) but it does sound very sucky.
Then don't get coffee (: I agree with #44, at least they were being nice.
I worked at Dunkin Donuts and ended up with more than that in tips in four hours. That sucks! Seriously guys, the couple should have forgone the salad and given the girl at least eight bucks in cash. In most restaurants I go to 15% is minimal tipping, I usually tip 20%. Recession my ass, if you can afford to go to a nice eating establishment you should be able to afford the tip that goes with it.
$5 is the minimum on those cards, there may be more on it. You won't know until you call and check. Still $5 will get you 2 Venti Tazo Black Iced Tea Sweetened. I used to Wait tables, you know what? like it or not a tip is VOLUNTARY, maybe everything BUT your attitude was great.
at least you got a tip =]
they DO sell things besides coffee there.
that was really nice of them! at least they were trying to spice up your tip collection! on the bright side: now you can brag to the other waitresses/waiters about how you got a gift card :D
i totally agree with #49 (me and you are probably going to catch a lot of hate for it, but i dont give a shit to show you all how kind i am i will even pause for you to call me a cheap bastard............. there glad you get it out of your system). TIPPING IS OPTIONAL. Personally i dont get the whole premise of tipping. I am supposed to pay you more for just doing your job... WTF and to all those saying they should have reduced the price of their meal to leave a better tip. WTF they are supposed downgrade their experience out just so they can pay her more (again) For JUST DOING HER JOB. If we tip waiters why dont we tip other (some "more important") professions, Doctors potentially save your life but that doesnt deserve a tip, but a waiter serving you a soup and salad does...WTF. I work long hours in a bank helping people set up savings and checking accounts I never once recieved a tip. Sanitation workers help keep the streets clean and i doubt you tip yours. To those saying "waiter live off tips" not to sound mean but that's not my problem. you knew what you were signing up for. And yes most of the time i do tip, but my tipping is based on the service, if the waiter/atmosphere/food is good ill tip well, but if its not ill do the patented "keep-the-change" tip. and now-a-days several restaurants are raising their prices to incorporate the "ambiance" of the restaurant and some are even adding mandatory gratuity. So are we supposed to keep tipping the same. Am i supposed to be forced to pay the waiter extra for doing their job and then choose to pay extra on top of that. thats about all i have to say on that but Seriously In all seriousness, How did tipping start, because i cannot see people willingly paying someone extra for doing their job,

Well, there's tea and pastries there, too, yanno. I always get a Chai when I go there. No reason to be completely thankless.
Ooh, burn! I was tipped with toothbrushes once. Hey cool, number 1 =D
