yeah I went to hospital not that long ago and they couldn't find the vein on the back of my hand for the iv drip, after about 5 times she gave up and stuck it in the crook of my elbow. lol
I had to have surgery, and they got the IV in but it infiltrated so I had fluid collecting under my skin and they didn't notice until I was wheeled into the OR. They had to cover it up with a hot washcloth so the fluid would dissipate and then tried to get the IV started about 6 more times before calling in the chief Anesthesiologist who tried 2 more times before getting a line started. It had to be on that arm, too, because the surgery was taking place on the opposite elbow. Afterwards, that arm was more bruised than the surgical site.

To be honest, I'm not sure there are many people that do like needles...
As a nurse OP, we try to get it done as fast as we can. It sucks and sometimes we can't find a good vein to work with, but we aren't purposely trying to hurt you. Stay strong OP you can do it!
