Today, I went to the hospital due to vomiting and abdominal pain, and they decided to fit me with an IV drip. It took several tries by two different people to get the cannula in. I feel like a human pin-cushion. FML

To be honest, I'm not sure there are many people that do like needles...

As a nurse OP, we try to get it done as fast as we can. It sucks and sometimes we can't find a good vein to work with, but we aren't purposely trying to hurt you. Stay strong OP you can do it!

Can I ask what was wrong? I only ask because I went to the hospital for this exact problem on monday and I was told I only had a virus. Also the doctors messed up on the first Iv and had to use my second arm too while drawing blood. I still have the bruise from it.

Speaking as a phlebotomist. It's not always as easy you think to hit the vein every time. Even when you anchor the vein it can still roll on you. Heavy people have deep veins and some have thin veins. Shit happens.

I'm with you dude, but there's a limit! I once let someone try 6 times in 3 different places because "damn hun, your veins are just rolling! I've almost got it." When I finally insisted on someone else she was very huffy and offended. However, the new person got it on the first freaking try.

I looked like a drug addict after all the testing for my stomach and gallbladder

Yea that sucks sounds like dehydration related vomiting abd pain collapsed veins go right along with it making a hard stick I bet when they did get the catheter in and fluids in you'd probably feel much better :)

I know that feeling all too well.

This always happens to my mom n sis bc they have small veins. I'm sorry :(

That sucks OP! When I had a injection, the nurse 'accidentally' got it suck in my arm and she had to call for help whilst I hyperventilated.. needles suck!

I have SOOOOOOOooooooooo been there!!!!!!!!

That's me every single time. I've had up to seven people try to find my veins for one IV.
