Today, I worked 24 hours straight fixing my company's servers. After it was over, I breathed a huge sigh of relief and promptly fell asleep at my desk. My boss found me an hour later, refused to listen to me, and fired me for sleeping on the job. FML

Too bad you can't rewire your boss so he isn't a dick.

Hopefully you made a trip to HR. Might get yourself in some trouble for working too long but you should also get your job back… unless they think the hours worked is just as bad as sleeping on the job.

I know how stressful getting severs straightened out can be,what a douche.id put them back in disarray as much as possible before i left.and his argument against you was that you were just sleeping.so you doing that can make life harder for him while at the same time making a point for you that you were in the middle of "working hard"on fixing the problem and eventually passed out from exhaustion.

I don't know about OP's place of business but every time I've ever fired someone or witnessed someone getting fired they get escorted off the premises within minutes. And aren't left alone with anything. Any boss worth his salt will have the passwords changed before the tech can get to a laptop in his car or home anyway.

I might not sue, but I'd write a letter to my boss about what I'd done, not an angry one, but about how I come to fall asleep. go out on a high note.

I'd sue. But maybe be thankful too cause now you can get unemployment and find a job that appreciates you. But you should file for a wrongful suit. Good luck. Oh hey can you complain to people higher than him? Take action.

I'm sorry about that, OP. Did your boss not let you explain that you'd spent 24 hours trying to fix the servers?

It says in the FML that the boss refused to listen.

If you can fixed a server and you got fired for sleeping, well you could talk to company owner about that, if he refuses to listen to this then take that server down

Sounds like time to undo what you fixed

Who are you? The Jack Bauer of the IT world?

You should have put a whole bunch of viruses on their server and make it worse than before.
