Your parents chose to have you (or they didnt take precautions, whichever). that comes with a legal obligation to care for you until you;re 18. Don't pay the "rent" because if they try to evict you they're guilty of child endangerment.

You're still underage and legally they still need to be spending money on you. If they're serious about charging you rent, call your city's non emergency police line. Your parents will get in trouble.

I turned 17 on the 20th and instead of going out with my friends I waited pratically the whole day for my parents stop fighting and take the family out. Apparently they found it a perfect day to tell me thier thinking of getting a divorce. Happy Birthday ! I understand.
