Today, it was my girlfriend's birthday, so I decided to take her to a fancy restaurant and give her an expensive $400 necklace that I had bought. Being traditional, I asked the waiter to arrange it nicely on the tray when he came with our dessert. Neither he nor the necklace ever showed up. FML

Damn, hopefully the restaurant had security cameras.

Some people are dicks. He was one of those people.

Follow up with the restaurant everyday until you get answers. Someone else must have seen something.

Everybody assumes the waiter took it. What if some other girl got the necklace, instead? Where there any super excited girls with a confused guy sitting nearby?

Interesting take on the situation but I would think that if the waiter messed up with the table then OP would still see him around.

She would have appreciated it more had it come from your own hands.

Traditional is just another word for unoriginal. YDI for not being able to have a creative thought.

I would report him to the manager I would report him to the manager and see how it goes from there.

no need to report him to the manager twice though

Getting to a point where you can hardly trust anyone these days, like everyone is saying tho for sure there were cameras. Talk to a manger

Never, ever arrange something like this with a stranger. If you do want to do something like this, arrange it with the restaurant manager, and ensure witnesses. It was a nice thought, but irresponsible.

I'm sure if you descibe him the manager will know who it is.
