Today, it was my girlfriend's birthday, so I decided to take her to a fancy restaurant and give her an expensive $400 necklace that I had bought. Being traditional, I asked the waiter to arrange it nicely on the tray when he came with our dessert. Neither he nor the necklace ever showed up. FML

Damn, hopefully the restaurant had security cameras.

Some people are dicks. He was one of those people.

Perhaps he decided that you're gentleman and considered it as a pre-tip before his service. Look at the bright side, you don't have to give him a tip!

I'm a waiter and that's horrible!! I would never even think to do that

That is totally ****** up. ! what a dickwad

I think the restaurant should pay you back for that. After all they hired the guy to act on their behalf. Maybe next time I'll do a better background check.. You walk in there you see a waiter, the last thing you think he's going to do is steal your necklace..

I wonder if you bring the receipt to the restaurant, and see if they're bonded and can get some form of reimbursement. If not, get the police involved and save any documentation. It happened on their property, their employee who they're responsible for. See what happens.

Let this be a lesson to all the 'original' thinkers who want to propose with dessert at a public restaurant.
