Ask them how living with social services in a foster home sounds?
This is what I would do if I were you; I would secretly calls the teachers to let them know what they said, then punish them for what they said, and when they go spreading lies and slander to their teachers, they won't believe them. And let's hope they don't call the cops.
I think you and your husband made devil children.
"If you call child services, they take 30 minutes to get here. In that 30 minutes, somebody gonna get hurt real bad"
Tell them that if they do tell their teachers that they're being abused that they will conduct an investigation to see if it's true and that the police will see that they're lying and that they'll go to Juvenile Detention(Not actually true I don't think ,but they'll be scared) or that they'll be placed in "the horrible foster care with people who don't love them"
One is a teenager. Lying won't work when they can just google it. Plus lying isn't a good way to get your kids to be honest with you
This is why I didn't become a teacher. Children have way to much power to destroy a persons career.
You birthed them. Thats where you went wrong. And you probably didn't punish them for being bad either.
The rebellion has begun
While they are at school, hide or sell their games or tablets or anything of that nature. Hide their beds. If it's their rules, they don't get to use things YOU purchased for them.

You should tell them, that if they say that, they will be taken away from you, and placed in foster care, where there will be rules, bedtimes and chores they're trying to escape.
Something like this happened to my uncle. His son (my cousin) called the cops on him for telling him to study, saying he hurt him. He had to live with us for a couple days. It's sad because now he's too afraid to discipline his youngest one now because if something is brought to the cops again it could get his kids taken away from him.
