Today, my aunt informed me that she thinks I'm faking the debilitating disease I've had for the past 13 years. Apparently she thinks I just don't want to go to college or get a job, and that I like living on disability. She also added that my entire extended family agrees with her. FML

What specific debilitating disease? Should have said the name. Then I could have googled it.

#06 - The OP said they suffer from a DISEASE, not a DISABILITY. There are numerous debilitating diseases out there that would prevent someone from going to work or school. It's very tactless of your aunt to have said something like that to you, particularly if you've been to the doctor. This situation is a hard FML, because it all depends on how the OP is acting... Still, FYL for having to deal with someone who can be so rude.

#38 you're just hung up on little words and don't see legit points, that's your problem not mine. #39 you're less of a baby than that muffin guy, but still kinda gay, have a wonderful time. bye.

#42 are you serious? are you really that ignorant? not all medication treats every single condition perfectly. and depression is the same as any other disease, it is a chemical imbalance in the brain. you know, chemical makeup? the thing that makes your brain work? sorry, but you seem like the type of person i need to spell things out for. depression is a real disease, with physical symptoms. people have KILLED themselves because of depression; because of the imbalance, it seems to them as if there is no future for them, no one loves them, and they wouldnt be missed. its not "for whiny babies" you prick. its for any normal human being who's brain basically starts working differently. so shut the **** up and pick fights on a subject you actually know about. oh, and using "gay" and "******" are derogatory to people who are actually homosexual. they are extremely offensive to people. further proof that youre an ignorant prick.

jprybylski: Thanks. Of course if you'd know what you're talking about you'd know that there are different levels and types of depression. You'd also know that some forms of depression are incurable, and sometimes the symptoms can only be treated with some success. And sometimes it cannot be treaten at all. Antidepressants, therapy and even the combination of both simply doesn't work on everybody. Sometimes they actually make things worse. And of course the biggest flaw in your logic is that just because you didn't, doesn't mean someone else doesn't. #37: But I didn't insult you. I'm sorry if I hurt your feeling though. As I said, it's nothing personal, I just don't like ignorance.

#43 Let's not let an unoriginal troll waste our time. Okay? :) But of course you are right.

#39 Being depressed is NOT the same as depression. I have a family member with it. When it hit them, they went from being one of the nicest people in the world, to someone who couldn't do anything. Couldn't get out of bed, never laughed at jokes, nothing was the same anymore. Once we found a combination of medication that actually worked, he returned to how he used to be almost overnight. Depressed is one thing, depression is a completely different thing. Liken it to this, being depressed is like having your leg hurt because you have a bruise. Depression is having broken your leg. It hurt, hurts more, and prevents you from using it. (Let me just add, that not every medication works for everyone. It forever to find a combination that worked in this case.)

#17, "maybe the disease is embarrassing". Um, this is the Internet. Nobody knows who you are. Go ahead and embarrass yourself. Not to mention this web site is pretty much all about embarrassment.

#47 And a tarantula can't bite you through the glass, bu try telling that to someone with a bad case of arachnophobia. Even if it is the internet and you're anonymous, people can still have hard time sharing intimate details about themselves.

#47 But maybe embarrassment comes about by saying it 'out loud'? I know people who didn't call their pregnancy a pregnancy to the person who got them pregnant because they felt embarrassed. People have different sensitivity levels.

To everyone who is going on about how depression isn't that bad, I wish it on you. You probably shouldn't be procreating anyway.

wow... dumbasses... I have had serious depression... I have attempted suicide... ItsZidane is half correct though... If you're going to let your depression control your life, then you are a big fat ugly pansy. Sure, it's not EASY to overcome depression, but that doesn't make it impossible. While I technically still have that "imbalance" in my brain, I feel much better these days because I've made the choice to try to improve my life. Does depression make it more difficult? HELLZ YES. But does it stop me from living a normal life? NO! Anyone who uses depression (or any other mental illness) as an excuse for their actions is a weak pussy. Everyone has obstacles, so ******* grow up and overcome yours.
