Today, my boss asked me to read through a document. I gave my feedback, saying it seemed like it had been written by an 8-year-old. Turns out it was in fact written by him. FML

You're supposed to give constructive criticism, not be a d-bag about it...

Don't expect that honesty to earn you a promotion anytime soon OP...

"It's got a few grammatical errors, but no big deal. I can give it a quick edit if you'd like." Do you also hit people if they're holding a toy you want to play with?

Haha yes He probably died a little inside. I would've loved to see his face as you told him this. Sorry for the crudeness it's just I've been in a similar situation

Yeah, YDI. It's called constructive criticism. Saying that it seemed like it had been written by an 8-year-old isn't good feedback and doesn't help anyone.

That was really unprofessional of you, OP. Why would you even say that to your boss, regardless of who actually wrote the paper? YDI so much - think before you start gobbing off next time.

So, if its true its true, maybe it didn't need to be put as harshly but as a writer I try to take constructive criticism. Hopefully he isn't going to fire you. I think firing someone because they have a different opinion than you is stupid.

"This was written by an 8 year old" is not feedback. "Feedback" involves being helpful. This was a calculated insult, though not a terribly well calculated one as it turned out.

Best to give constructive criticism instead of just straight up saying it sucks! I would be cautious from now on when he hands me stuff to read over. 8/

8 year old bosses are the best though don't worry, just give him a coloring book and he'll settle down.
