Today, my boss threw out the report I wrote for the board of directors. He said that if it were legal, he'd smash me in the balls with a brick for using Comic Sans. I had to do the whole thing again in another font with my coworkers snickering at me. FML

I don't know what you were thinking, writing a report in comic sans and expecting people to take you seriously.

I created an account just to ask this: How high were you to think that Comic Sans is a professional enough font to use to send a report to the board of directors? Might as well throw in emoticons in your report. " LOL Our profits are in the toilet T_T :((("

Was it wrong for you to use the wrong font? Yes. More importantly though it was completely unprofessional of of your bosses response.

I see how Comic Sans is not the preferred choice of font in a business report type setting but I don't understand the irrational negative connation associated with it that many of you are showing. It's just a font. If you lack the ability to discern content from a text because of the font, then I'd say it's would be hard to take you seriously. Here comes the contradictory rationalizations for why Comic Sans is bad. If I could type this comment in Comic Sans I would.

As a designer I have to disagree. A font is not just a font. We love in a world where we and our products are judged first by appearance it's best not to use a font that looks it's written in a marker by a first grader on an official document.

Prefacing your comment by calling yourself a designer does not increase the strength of said comment. Neither does over exaggerating to try to make your point. "marker by a first grader?" priceless. You must never seen first graders write before because it would be a compliment to the first grader if his/her handwriting was even remotely close to Comic Sans. Your tactics are invalid.

As a designer, I still think you're a pretentious twit.

Much of the distaste is because of the inconsistent spacing and capitalization in comic sans. It is supposed to be patterned after comic book lettering, but does not even work well for that purpose.

NEVER use comic sans that's like asking to be beat over the head in a professional setting.

I love you guys. These comments are humorous. Comic Sans isn't appropriate but the backlash here is hysterical. People are truly offended by this font! I had no idea.

People hate Comic Sans just to agree with others because they are afraid to be themselves. I absolutely love Comic Sans.

What is the reason for the Internet to hate comic sans so much? Does anyone actually know or did you all just hop on the bandwagon. I'm seriously curious!

Pretty sure it's because it looks childish, whereas fonts like Times New Roman and Calibri are clear, clean and professional

#124 Pretty sure no one is questioning the use of Comic Sans in professional settings. It's the informal settings we are interested in and we see a lot of people bashing it in informal settings. Clearly, a bandwagon.

It's unprofessional and was overused to the point of saturation in the days of geocities and angelfire pages, usually in cyan or yellow font on black background with blinking stars and a whole bunch of animated pictures trailing your mouse, plus an autoplay midi file of a song that if you were lucky you could find a pause button for at the very bottom of the page, but probably only after you got past the three JavaScript popup welcome messages. Or maybe that's just why I hate it.

Comic sans for the board of directors? Are you kidding? You need to take your work seriously!

Surely you saved it before printing it? All you would've needed to do would be change the font.

Why would you write a report in Comic Sans anyway? When it comes to reports, assignments, or anything that you want others to take seriously, it should ONLY be either Arial, Times New Roman or Calibri. Also, why re-type it? Surely you had a copy saved on your computer? Everyone who has ever used Word should know that you should ALWAYS save your work. That's the sensible thing to do.

Hmm its so hard to highlight all and change font unless you didn't save in which case YDI.. Computers are hard...
