Today, my boyfriend of 7 years broke up with me in a text message. Then I found out from a mutual friend that he "came out" and told everyone at our school that he is gay. He has known he was gay for years and he was just using me as a cover up. What a great way to start my senior year. FML

I really hope you mean your senior year of college...

Never waste 7 years of your life being in a relationship in high school/ college! Go out and have fun.

Seven years and you couldn't tell you were both checking out guys? Whatever.

As other people said... senior year of high school means 17/18. So you were 10/11 when you started, which is fifth grade. Senior year of college is better, and then that's about sophomore of high school you started dating, but if it was since middle school, wow. I wouldn't have expected it to last until high school. Just the way it's written, the entire schooling knowing, screams to me high. Still sucks, though. EDIT: But as someone else said. Seven years and you didn't have any inclination what-so-ever?

Doesn't it suck being a beard?

Is it possible he wanted to keep her away so bad he just told everyone he was gay?

Wow the exact thing basically happened to me last year. it was only about a year, but it was a text and everything. don't listen to people, you didn't "turn" him gay, and it's not your fault for not knowing. if he had only known for a few years how could you know? people generally assume their significant others are of the correct orientation. try not to blame him too much for leading you on, it's really hard to come to terms with that, although you do have a right to be angry.

Sounds like your gaydar needs a tune-up

There is a ridiculous need for the OP to post whether or not its senior year of HS or college. Two very different things.

It's pretty obvious that it's college genius. Together for seven years seems to be a dead give away. Unless you honestly think they could have stayed together since elementary school.

"Everyone at school" sounds like high school to me, although age-wise, college makes more sense. But then again, this doesn't sound like it was a particularly "normal" relationship, so maybe they were together since age 11.
