Today, my boyfriend of five years got me a ring for Christmas. When I opened it, I was speechless and overjoyed. He then said, "It's just a ring. It doesn't mean anything." FML

"He went to Jar-eh who gives a shit."

The words every girl wants to hear after being given a ring. *sigh* So romantic.

Leave him. You obviously don't have a future with him now.

5 years + special occasion + ring = proposal seems like a reasonable conclusion. Sorry it didn't happen this time OP, hope your ring is beautiful and your Christmas happy anyway. At least now he knows you're on board if he's considering it! :)

Curious as to what this ring was. Not all rings scream engagement.

I got a ring too and didn't assume it was - or even considered that it might be - a proposal. It's not exactly rocket science: unless her boyfriend pops the question, it's not an engagement ring. He shouldn't have to be so blunt about it for her to understand that. FHL

5 years? Figure it out. He is just not that into you.

If you're ready, you know.... You could get him a ring, get on one knee, and propose to him. Or if you really want to be proposed TO, ask him why the ring "didn't mean anything", you'll get a better view of the situation :)

It's been 5 years maybe you two should have a talk about future commitment. Depending on your age of course. If it's been 5 years and you're only 20 now then you're still young don't rush.

I'm sure he meant to clarify that it wasn't an engagement ring it was just a ring. My boyfriend (also 5 yrs) gave me a ring for Christmas too and made sure I understood that it is just a ring nothing more
