Maybe that was a cover up and he's going to?
I agree, most likely he was planning on doing so, wanted to know where you stood on the topic, and tried to cover with a bad joke. Or I'm being way too optomistic, one or the other.
we can always hope, right?
.... Dumbass...
Hopefully he was just playing to see her reaction but that wasn't funny.
My husband and I joke like that to each other often. Sometimes he jokes in a super serious tone but is always kidding around. Hopefully it was just meant to be a joke that was taken too seriously, especially since you've been dating a while. Ask him what he really meant. Communication is key.
See what I don't get is why everyone on here is saying he doesn't like her enough to stay log term. Now it did say if "she thought she'd find somebody..." However I know people who don't one want married and the other does and in a particular case one couples been together for 9 years
Sounds like he is trying to pull a Hans from Frozen.
People say stupid stuff sometimes. I wouldn't take it too seriously. Talk to him and if honestly never wants to marry you (or anyone for that matter) time to break up. I once asked my boyfriend if we would be together forever, and replied with "Forever is long time." Well we have been married over a year and together a total of 8 years .
Let's just take the optimistic approach and hope he meant that as to confirm whether or not she is ready to marry him

I've never understood why people stick around in long term relationships if they don't see it going anywhere (unless it's mutually agreed they both don't want marriage)...maybe he was joking?
"What kind of girl are you going to date next, after I dump you for being a jerk?"
