Today, my brother had his fiancée over to meet the whole family. We were having a great time with her, and my mother gushed to her that she was like the daughter she never had. I'm her daughter. FML

How about next time you, your mother and a mature woman are out, you say to the other woman "thanks for the great outing, you're awesome. You're like the mother I never had!" Then give your actual mother several pointed looks.

Your mom notes insecurities, makes comments to make a new family member feel welcomed. Ask her what she REALLY thinks of her when she's not around. You might be surprised.
