Today, my brother had his fiancée over to meet the whole family. We were having a great time with her, and my mother gushed to her that she was like the daughter she never had. I'm her daughter. FML

Today, I went to a family reunion with my brother and my mother. She spent quite a while giving a glowing introduction for my brother to one of her cousins. Then, just before walking off, she jerked a thumb in my direction and said, "Oh, yeah, and that's his sister." FML

Same thing happened to me, only my mother said it to my brother's ex-girlfriend, she wasn't even in the picture as far as becoming family. What some people don't realize because they have normal mentally-healthy mothers, is that some moms are completely insane, do horrible things to their kids and want to ruin their children's lives because of some underlying resentment or sense of entitlement. If your mom is one of those, then run! It's hard to do, but sometimes you need to for your own sake.
