Today, my cousin suddenly confided in me that he had tried to commit suicide by overdosing when he was 17. Shocked and not knowing how to respond, I blurted out, "Did it work?" FML

I'm sure you're not the first person to ever say that to someone in the same situation! I'm sure if your cousin is even mad, it wont last long :) It's hard to react quickly to news like that..
