Those conversations are pretty awkward, I also have a hard time responding to that... I try to make them feel as good as possible about themselves. Usually when people tell me they are usually in the situation right now...:/
Jesus how many suicidal people do you know?
That just YDI fo being stupid
The answer is a big obvious 'No! It didn't work!'
Almost as bad as my cousin telling me a guy committed suicide three times. Almost. What you said was out of shock. My cousin was dropped on his head as a child. Several times apparently.
Op, don't beat yourself up over this. Suicide is an awkward conversation topic for everyone effected by it. Having it thrown upon you suddenly by a loved one and/or family member can be rather shocking, I'm sure your cousin understands that you just had a mental hiccup from it. Lots of people just burst into tears, some just stare in disbelief, others explode in outrage, it happens. Hopefully you were able to gather your wits and talk it out with him after that though. :(
Bugbear? That must be another expression for pet peeve but I'm now thinking about "Dungeons & Dragons".
57- You know, I was actually staring at it myself, but for the life of me, I couldn't put it together in my head which one was correct. ;( Think I'm going to be googling the difference now that it's eating at me. ;p
If it didn't then, it will now!
Agh you finally realized after all these years he's really just been a ghost and you have been seeing dead people! Lol. I've been in situations like this--sometimes just not saying anything at first is the best thing to do! Wait until you can fully digest what they've told you!! Better luck next time someone says they've tried to commit suicide, but in the mean time I wouldn't work at any crisis hotlines! :D
That really sucks. Don't be too hard on yourself, though. Some people blurt out things they really don't mean when they're shocked. And if your cousin is that upset and thinks you're heartless for an understandable mistake, he was also a little bit hasty once and almost made a life-threatening mistake.

Nice choice of words there...
