Today, my coworker, who has a tendency to overshare, decided to tell me she has chlamydia. I threw my hands in the air and said, "Stop. I don't wanna know." A customer heard this exchange and we were both written up. FML

Yeah. If there is an HR department, it's time to pay a visit them.

I wonder exactly was the complaint given? "Oh my God! I heard that one has Chlamydia and probably gave it to that person! Think of the virgin ears of my poor children!!"

But, I don't think a write up was necessary for either of you. That customer was an asshole.

Anytime any thing unpleasant surfaces just throw your hands up in the air and shout,"stop, I don't want to know." It could be the new company slogan.

if you follow it with a little dance it can catch on. Just like Stop. Hammer time...

She should have been written up, not you. You told her to stop. The customer is a bitch for saying you did something wrong too.

So you got in trouble because another coworker told you something? That's seriously messed up.

That depends on how he said what he said. If the customer was disgusted by what she said AND offended by how he actually responded (maybe he yelled or said it really rudely) then unfortunately management will take the customer's side. They always do.

I have a coworker who does similar stuff. Our store is small and he talks about inappropriate things pretty loudly. She needs to know that she needs to keep her mouth shut and focus on work if she can't keep things kosher.

First of all that is not grounds for a jar it wasn't harassment it was just the person sharing personal information and the fact you overreacted like a 10-year-old if I were her I'd never share any personal information with you again because your actions were very childish

Good. If you're just my coworker I don't WANT to know anything personal, especially like that, about you.

Telling someone you have an STD isn't work place appropriate especially with customers within hearing range. Not everyone wants to know about that kind of stuff.

Customers like this piss me off. You know no one is talking to you so why get them in trouble? I'm sorry you got roped into the nonsense OP.

While I agree that OP doesn't deserve it, it doesn't matter if no one spoke to the customer. Some things are inappropriate and unprofessional to talk about in front of customers and warrant a complaint. I know a guy who was fired for explicitly talking about anal sex in front of customers. And there have been times where I've walked up to a register or something and the girls have been swearing and talking negatively about a coworker. I didn't complain, but I had every right to since I was offended by it. I work in customer service myself and would understand someone complaining about me talking about something so offensive. I've also seen people get complaints for being assholes to their coworkers, so if OP didn't exactly say stop in a nice tone, that could be where his part of the complaint came from.

there are just some things that are not meant to be shared, your sexual health is one of those things its way too personal to shout out at the whole world to hear

Doesn't matter if they were talking to the customer or not. You're supposed to converse with the customer, not each other. The customer had every right to complain when an employee is talking about inappropriate things on the job. It just sucks that op got into trouble too since they told the person to stop.
