Today, my dentist told me I have a cavity and blamed it on the "subpar" toothpaste I've been using - the same toothpaste he recommended six months ago at my last appointment. FML

"Well my 'subpar' toothpaste was recommended by my 'subpar' dentist with a 'subpar' brain"

Ask for a new recommendation then immediately walk to another dentist and ask for a better recommendation stating the other guy has subpar ideas

I noticed that product recommended by doctors in general chance constantly. Why, you may ask? The doctors participate in conventions and they get sponsored by pharmaceuticals companies if they prescribe one product over the other. I think is common practice.

i think it's time for you to find a new dentist

All depends on who his sponsor was .. at the time.

I really hope you pointed that out and made him feel foolish.

wait till your next appointment and the cavity will magically be gone. happens to me with my dentist all the time

Get a new dentist. You can always take a copy of your x-ray and get a second opinion, don't settle for sub-par work as you have only one set of permanent teeth.

4 out of 5 dentists would recommend... guess he's the holdout now.

My dentist is the same, one year they say buy an electric tooth brush and the next he says you should use a regular brush.

"Oh, you mean the one you recommended, doc?" X3

tooth for a tooth, sue him for bodily harm! He knowingly prescribed you something that damaged your teeth, in order to have more work and charge you for the damage he caused. That is very punishable! I'd change dentists and sue that one ):
