hahah id never let anyone borrow my laptop... id call the police
your fault. you should find better friends.
See, this is why I'm psychotic about my laptop. No one touches it unless I'm right there over their shoulder. I have everything password protected and I even have the guest account disabled except for those few instances when I let someone use it. I enable the guest account, log out of mine, log into the guest account, and then sit there and watch everything that they do. When they're done, I log out of the guest account, log back into mine, and disable it again. See, I'm totally nuts about my computer. I keep everything backed up to two different external hard drives and I keep them both hidden in different places. It's not even that I have things to hide, I just don't like people messing with my stuff. Especially my files and music. I would probably die if I was to lose all my music! I hear all these horror stories about people getting viruses on their computer and losing everything . . . That's what I have nightmare about. I'm extremely careful about what I download, install, where I go online, and what programs that I use to protect my computer, but I have this unnatural fear that someone will manage to put something like that onto my computer and destroy all my years of collecting! That, and either steal or lose vital personal family information that I've been entrusted with. I would call her first and see if she left it with someone for you to pick up or if she's shipping it back (overnight, of course), but if she doesn't answer after a day, call the police. That's just a really horrible thing to do to someone nice enough and (sorry, but it's true) stupid enough to loan out his laptop.
firstly, if someone has physical access to the computer, you can kick passwords right out of the window because they just can use a live cd or something (and if you supervise them, why have passwords at all?). Also, hiding your backups is stupid as hell. Just encrypt that shit, then noone can access it even if you leave it in a spotlight
Try to get in touch with her, whether via telephone or e-mail. If she doesn't reply to your satisfaction within a week, call the cops on her. Even if you don't get your laptop or money back, an outstanding warrant or unpaid fine will work wonders on her credit score and any background checks someone may run on her.
I can't believe you people are so stupid. SHE STOLE IT, MORONS. She didn't accidentally forget she was moving and accidentally take it with her. This person can't just call her up and go "oh hey you accidentally took my laptop wanna ship it back? :D" Jesus christ, some of the people here are completely incapable of putting 2 and 2 together.
I live in Detroit, I could help you get it back! I hope you at least have her phone number/address/facebook/something
@33: same here, but you go to greater lengths. I worry most about losing downloaded movies (especially my ****).

Laptop is a very personal thing, like a lingerie i must say. Why to give it to anyone at all? Find the bitch and smack her down.
funny how you start it off with "my friend" she doesnt sound too friendly
