alright i agree weed should be legal, and i know conservatives/christians/anti-pot people fall under the same category frequently, but I'm CHRISTIAN, and I believe pot should be LEGAL, like I said before. leave the Bible out of this. thanks.

Because, from what I've learned, weed is illegal because politicians and people in positions of power used their influence to make it illegal for their own purposes, mainly monetary gain (After all, that's what politics is all about right? Follow the money.) Harry Anslinger, one of said politicians, saw the Bureau of Narcotics as a career opportunity, but since cocaine and opiates wouldn't be enough to build his agency, he latched onto marijuana and worked towards making it illegal on a federal level. He was assisted in his propaganda making by William Randolph Hearst, who wanted to protect his interests in the timber industry that supported his newspaper chain (hemp can be used for paper, and it has many other helpful uses). Today, it remains illegal, and a large amount of the american population agrees with its illegality, thanks mainly to these reasons: 1. It is perceived as addictive, when in reality it is no more addictive than alcohol, and many would argue that it is less so. 2. There is widespread controversy over its medical use. While marijuana has yeilded considerable medical benefits, they are not widely accepted well enough. 3. It has been historically linked with narcotics, such as cocaine, to increase fear and doubt regarding it. 4. It is associated with unfashionable lifestyles. Many have been lead to believe that if you smoke weed, you automatically will become a loser pothead with no motivation, when in most cases this is completely untrue. 5. It was associated with oppressed ethnic groups, such as Latinos and African-Americans. This helped with the process of making it illegal, during a time in which racism and discrimination were commonly accepted. 6. It has been illegal for a fairly long time in our country (the USA), and many choose not to argue with the status quo. So, correct me if I'm wrong, but it doesn't really seem like there is any GOOD reason for its illegality. It's not like the government is protecting the American populous by making it illegal.
