Today, my girlfriend of five months told me that she had booked us reservations to our town's Halloween barbecue party. When I reminded her that I'm vegan, she told me she specifically got the reservations to help me to quit my "stupid fad". Weird, I never knew being a devout Hindu was a fad. FML

While what she did was disrespectful to you... I don't see why you being vegan should stop you from enjoying a friendly gathering; regardless of the food they serve.

You need to have a serious talk with your girlfriend. She shouldn't disrespect you and your choices/beliefs like that. If she continues to do this you have to consider dumping her

you need to take a bag with fruits and vegetables, and when she offers you meat take some out and bite it an be like no I'm good. mess with her and let her know you mean business. do a bugs bunny move. like what's up doc , while eating a carrot.

She seems like the kind of person to sneak meat into your food to trick you into eating it. I have never suggested breaking up with people on FML, but if she does not come to terms with and respect your lifestyle completely and soon I wouldn't stay with her, OP. Otherwise you may find yourself betrayed. I'm sorry to say that, but it is likely true.

your comment is frightening. please get evaluated for a mental disease. you came up with an extremely strange paranoid scenario and accused another of it. you need help.

It's so refreshing to see people advising you talk to her and discussing her disrespectfulness before just saying "dump her!" - it's quite shocking, too. lol But I completely agree with them. Definitely talk to her about this and see if she changes her tune about your "fad diet" and, if she doesn't or its obvious she's not going to, then you two should definitely end things and move on to people who respect you and your values and choices.

Veganism and hinduism are not fads! As a vegetarian I get this a lot and it can get on your last nerve. And as your gf she should respect your choices in life. You can still go to the bbq and have a good time together regardless of what you eat. It's about having a good time together and many vegan options are available. but she shouldn't impose her beliefs on you just like she wouldn't want you to force her to become a vegan...

hindus are SOMETIMES vegetarians, not vegans. vegetarianism is not a requisite to being hindu. veganism is a fad in comparison to hinduism. so many non-hindus willing to defend something they know nothing about. the op is either laughing at you all or simply cannot grasp simple concepts in their self-reported religion.

Veganism is a douche trend. You're all condescending ass hats that think you are so morally superior to the rest of us. To that I say piss off.

Your girlfriend sounds like she needs a reality check. She obviously doesn't respect you or your choices very much. As long as you're not one of those vegans who constantly shoves it down people's throats (though it doesn't sound like it if it's part of your religion) then she should accept you for who you are. Time to have a serious chat I think.

"(though it doesn't sound like it if it's part of your religion)" If it's part of a religion it's fine no matter what you do, but if you do it due to ethics it's not? You know most of the time it's the meat eaters who shove their stuff down the vegan and vegetarian people's throat. Being able to just eat in peace is quite rare.

Grilled peppers and mushrooms, grilled corn on the cob, grilled mac n cheese. My mouth waters smelling grilled steak, wonder if vegas get the same way with fresh cut grass. Either way, plenty of options to cook vegan stuff on a grill.

Mac and cheese isn't vegan. It has dairy. No animal products at all allowed if you're vegan.

While 35 is right, grilled mac and cheese has me intrigued. Please tell me more.
