Today, my grandmother yet again asked where my grandfather is. She refuses to believe us when we tell her that he passed away 6 years ago. She always insists that he's out cheating on her and accuses us of lying to cover his arse. FML

I'm sorry. Dementia is tough for any family. Stay strong, lean on family.

I feel bad for you, OP, but even moreso for your grandmother. Dementia is tough for any family to cope with. You know it's not her fault, but frustration is inevitable. Stay strong, and be the best granddaughter you can be.

Try keeping the obituary around? To show her?

It's unfortunate that you are caught in the middle, OP. Just be there for her and your family. I'm sure she appreciates the company even if she is still trying to work through her own issues. Good luck!

Maybe it would be best to tell her that he's gone for a bit but she will see him in a little while. Its not lying. It keeps her from getting upset and thinking he is cheating. She would rather believe he is cheating then dead. Good luck!

So? That was obvious in the first post and you stating it changes nothing.

Can't imagine how painful it is to answer that question over and over again. Hope your grandma can find peace someday OP

It sounds like Alzheimer's or dementia.

Alzheimers-Dementia is a horrible, horrible disease. As hard as it is for you, just imagine how hard it is for her. It's like being locked in a cage. Please remember that she is still your grandmother and that it is not her fault. I would give anything to answer my fathers questions another 1,000 times. I miss him so much. Prayers to you and your family.
